As former Professor of ebonic studies I can assure, that this is a perfectly good example for the natural behavior of african americans:
Everything is a competition!
i.e.:
-getting the last bucket of chicken
-outrunning the cops
-black fryday sales run
-domestic difficulties
-human relations
etc.
It has to be mentioned, that all of those competitions are worthless without other people looking, listening and actually judging the achievement. White people react with misunderstanding, confusion and even disgust.
