Oh was eine süße Schlange! *vvs
A young American girl visiting Australia picks up an Eastern Brown snake, one of the deadliest snakes in the world, mistaking it for a harmless garter snake.
Most people die within minutes of being bitten by this species of
snake. It was previously considered the world's deadliest snake, prior
to the discovery of the Inland Taipan. The Eastern Brown Snake kills
faster than the rarely encountered Inland Taipan and is far more likely
to envenomate with a bite. It's killed more Australians than any other
species. Some victims collapse within 12 minutes and death follows soon
after if antivenom is not administered. Usually, you just can't get
medical attention in time since the venom is so potent.
The venom contains powerful presynaptic neurotoxins, procoagulants,
cardiotoxins and nephrotoxins, and envenomation can result in
progressive paralysis and uncontrollable bleeding. Including bleeding of
the brain. Brown Snakes sometimes tend to chew (to inject more venom)
when they latch on and are one of the only species of snake to actively
chase people over a distance.
"It's arguably the quickest killing venom in the world. No other
snake in the world has killed people so quickly, so regularly" -
toxicology expert Dr Brian Fry.
